Review: "Tales of the Peculiar" by Ransom Riggs

RATING 4.5/5

We all know that Ransom Riggs is a great man with a great mind, and he proves it again in "Tales of the Peculiar" where he shows his imagination to the next level. The book contains 10 entirely different stories with countless new characters but all the stories have one thing in common: all 10 are absolutely brilliant.

I couldn't help but judge this book by it's cover. It's incredibly pleasing to the eye. The inside of the book contains 10 magical drawings drawn by Andrew Davidson. Just by looking at the pictures I got eager to read the book.

Most stories are about peculiar people finding a way to deal with their differences from 'normal' people. I like the stories in particular because they are all a reflection of reality. All contain moral lessons. This is a great way to introduce children (or even adults) to feminism, respect and dignity.

The book is a follow-up from the series "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", also by Ransom Riggs. Even though the stories in "Tales of the Peculiar" are based on the series, you don't have to have read them in order to understand and enjoy the book. Obviously, the trilogy will give you some background information but I'm sure you will be able to appreciate the book anyway, like I did.

I've just finished reading "Tales of the Peculiar" for the second time, and I'm positive there will be many more to come. The combination of physically appealing and strong content has always been, and will always be, irresistible to me.
